APRA is still rescuing those special dogs who are complicated and need extended care. Due to the lack of resources we can’t have an open door as we did for twenty years; however, we are still able to help in certain situations. Those who we have taken in we have known would probably never leave, or had homes already committed to adopt them once medical needs were resolved. Our current foster dogs are those whose ages and conditions have kept them from being “adoptable.” Their conditions range from diabetes, blindness, incontinence and severe deformity. We will care for them the rest of their lives and that care is ongoing and expensive. While our commitment in numbers had to be greatly reduced, our commitment to make a difference for those who surround us remains nothing short of providing everything they need.
